DOOM: The Dark Ages’ Path Tracing Update is coming in June
DOOM: The Dark Ages is receiving Path Tracing and DLSS upgrades next month
At Computex 2025, Nvidia confirmed that DOOM: The Dark Ages will receive a major update in June, adding path tracing and DLSS Ray Reconstruction to the game.
These upgrades will enhance the visuals of DOOM: The Dark Ages’ PC version by taking its ray tracing effects to the next level. This will come in the form of more advanced lighting and more advanced reflections. DOOM: The Dark Ages is already the best-looking DOOM game, and it will soon look even better on PC.
We have already reviewed DOOM: The Dark Ages’ PC version. Next month, we hope to revisit the game to assess the impact of Nvidia’s path tracing update.
Above and below, we have images of DOOM’s upcoming path tracing update. Nvidia showcased these images at Computex 2025. With this update, reflections are clearer and are present on more surfaces. Overall, the game’s lighting is greatly improved.
Above, we can see the impact that DLSS has when combined with path tracing. Simply put, path-traced games are too demanding to run without DLSS lightening the load. This is achieved through upscaling and frame generation. Additionally, DLSS Ray Reconstruction is used to improve the quality of ray-traced reflections. Note that Nvidia shows a 7x boost in framerate. However, it should be noted that DLSS Multi-Frame Generation is used, which means that three out of four frames are AI generated.
