EA’s deleting Anthem

EA has unveiled its plan to kill Anthem

EA and BioWare have announced that they will be sunsetting Anthem on January 12th 2026, effectively wiping the game from existence. While it is common for online games to eventually have their servers shut down, it is worth remembering that Anthem can be played solo and features a full campaign.

EA has abandoned Anthem. Now, the company plans to wipe the game from existence. Once the game’s servers go offline, the game will be made unplayable. The game has no offline mode. As such, this is another game that will cease to exist without its servers. Another part of gaming history will soon vanish into the ether.

Honestly, this action is disrespectful to the developers who created this game and the gamers who paid for it. This game’s content should be made playable offline, preserving the game for anyone who wants to try it.

Hi everyone,

We have an important update to share regarding Anthem. After careful consideration, we will be sunsetting Anthem on January 12, 2026. This means that the game will still be playable online for the next 180+ days. As of today, you can no longer purchase in-game premium currency, but you can still use your remaining balance until the servers go offline.

We deeply appreciate your dedication, passion and support over the years and we’d like to thank you for that.

The Bioware Team

Moments like this are the reason why the “Stop Killing Games” movement exists. This movement has already forced game publishers to change their ways. Thanks to this movement, Ubisoft has created plans to release “offline mode” updates for The Crew 2 and The Crew Motorfest. If EA cared about gamers and the legacy of its products, it would do the same for Anthem.

Stop Killing Games currently has petitions running in the UK and European parliaments. Both of these petitions would benefit from more signatures from residents of these jurisdictions. If we want to prevent publishers from discontinuing their legacy games, gamers and governments must take action. EA shouldn’t delete Anthem when it has a perfectly playable solo mode.
