Geekbench preps for more Windows on ARM PCs with version 6.5

Geekbench 6.5 is ready for the next generation of Windows on ARM PCs

Primate Labs have just released Geekbench 6.5, an updated version of the company’s cross-platform benchmarking utility that’s optimised for the next generation of Windows on ARM PCs. With this new version, support for Scalable Matrix Extensions (SME) has been enabled for Windows on ARM. Primate Labs says that this will improve compatibility and performance for “upcoming CPU releases”.

This new version also addresses crashes that impact users of the benchmark on Android and iOS devices. Additionally, Primate Labs has confirmed that scores generated with this new release of Geekbench are comparable to scores generated using Geekbench 6.3 and 6.4. As such, it is recommended that all Geekbench 6.X users upgrade.

Primate Labs is pleased to announce that Geekbench 6.5 is now available for download. The latest version of Primate Labs’ cross-platform benchmark features the following changes:

  • Enable Scalable Matrix Extensions on Windows on ARM. Geekbench 6.5 enables Scalable Matrix Extensions (SME) support on Windows on ARM, improving compatibility and performance for upcoming CPU releases.
  • Fix crashes on Android and iOS. Geekbench 6.5 fixes crashes that could occur when viewing benchmark results on Android and iOS.

Geekbench 6.5 scores are comparable with Geekbench 6.3 and 6.4 scores. Geekbench 6.5 is a recommended update for all Geekbench 6 users.

When Primate Labs mentions “upcoming CPUs”, the company is likely referencing next-generation Qualcomm or Nvidia CPUs. This includes Nvidia’s planned N1 and N1X CPUs. If that is the case, Geekbench should now provide more favourable benchmark scores for these CPUs by utilising SME instructions. Currently, the impact of these instructions on benchmark scores is unknown.

This updated version of Geekbench will enable Windows on ARM PCs to deliver more favourable benchmark results compared to standard Windows x86 PCs and Apple Silicon Macs. This is great news for companies like Qualcomm and Nvidia. Both companies are likely to launch new ARM-based CPUs for Windows PCs within the next year.
