GOG is bringing the original Resident Evil trilogy back to PC
The original Resident Evil is now available digitally on PC through GOG
Many classic PC games are practically lost to time. Compatibility issues with modern OS’, a lack of digital availability, and the increasing rarity of original disks-based versions have made it increasingly difficult to play many PC classics. Thankfully, GOG are stepping in to save many of these older PC titles, with their latest efforts focusing on the first three Resident Evil games.
Thanks to GOG, the original 1997 PC version of Resident Evil is now available on PC. Soon, Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 3 will receive the same treatment. The games are available separately, or as part of a three game bundle on PC.
On GOG, these classic games have been reworked to make them fully compatible with modern Windows OS’. Additionally, they now feature an “improved DirectX game renderer”, integer scaling, and anti-aliasing options. In short, these games now look and play better on PC, but retain their original look.
Below is a list of fixes that improvements that GOG have made to the first Resident Evil game on PC.
- Full compatibility with Windows 10 and Windows 11.
- All 4 localizations of the game included (English, German, French, Japanese).
- Improved DirectX game renderer.
- New rendering options (Windowed Mode, Vertical Synchronization Control, Gamma Correction, Integer Scaling, Anti-Aliasing and more).
- Improved timing of the cutscenes.
