Half-Life 2 RTX looks stunning in its latest trailer
Half-Life 2 RTX has been listed on Steam, and it looks stunning
To celebrate Half-Life 2’s upcoming 20th anniversary, Orbifold Studios, the team behind Half-Life 2 RTX, has released a new tribute video for Valve’s classic shooter. The game has also been listed on Steam as a free download, though the game/mod remains unavailable.
Half-Life 2 RTX is a mod that recreates Valve’s Half-Life 2 using Nvidia’s RTX Remix technologies. This adds full ray tracing to the game as well as DLSS Super Resolution, Frame Generation, and Ray Reconstruction. Furthermore, the game assets have been recreated with higher polygon counts, physically based textures, and more.
Half-Life 2 is almost 20 years old, and that means that most modern gamers have not played this classic shooter. Orbifold Studios’ RTX mod for the game will introduce this PC classic to modern gamers with massive visual upgrades. This will make the game more palatable for modern audiences if they have the hardware required to run it.
Since this is an RTX mod, it will undoubtedly run best on Nvidia GeForce RTX hardware. After all, only Nvidia GPUs support DLSS. Beyond that, Nvidia GPUs are much better at ray tracing than their AMD counterparts, at least right now.
This mod uses the latest version of Nvidia’s RTX Remix toolset. With it comes support for DLSS, Nvidia Reflex, and RTX IO. Orbifold Studios has not revealed the release date for their Half-Life 2 mod. We expect the release date of this mod to be revealed at an Nvidia event.
