Have a look at Need for Speed Most Wanted with RTX Remix Path Tracing

Nvidia’s RTX Remix tech is being used to give Need for Speed: Most Wanted a huge overhaul

On YouTube a modder called “Cycu1” has released a video showcasing a work in progress RTX Remix mod for Need for Speed Most Wanted. This mod adds Nvidia’s RTX path traced lighting to the game, completely changing the look of the classic racing title.

Below, we can see a video of the game running in its original state and with Nvidia RTX Remix. Both versions can run at 60 FPS on Nvidia’s RTX 4080 graphics card. However, it is worth noting that the RTX Remix version is not without issues. For starters, the RTX Remix version clearly has ghosting issues.

While there are some areas where RTX Remix has improved the lighting of Need for Speed, it is hard to say that the game looks better overall. The RTX Remix version removes much of the game’s original artistic styling, with its colour grading being completely removed. While the original game may be a little dark and dull by today’s standards, the RTX Remix version seems overly bright by comparison. The game’s path traced lighting also does not appear to cast shadows with all objects or interact well with the game’s smoke effects.

This is an early example of an RTX Remix mod for Need for Speed. There is clearly a lot of work that needs to be done before this mod is ready to launch. Alongside a lighting overhaul, RTX Remix is also designed to replace textures and assets. These other aspects of RTX Remix have not been worked on yet. I look forward to the day we see this game with a Portal with RTX quality RTX Remix mod.
