Hitman 2016’s Game of the Year Update brings performance issues to PC

Back in June, IO Interactive became an independent developer, cutting their ties with Square Enix to forge their own path while retaining the rights to the Hitman series. 

Since this announcement, the developer has been working on upgrading their latest Hitman game, recently delivering the title’s Game of the Year Edition, which features four new campaign missions, enhanced lighting and changes to several of the game’s UI elements. 

Sadly this update has introduced some issues into the game’s PC version, lowering overall CPU utilisation to cause some large framerate drops. Since the update, our GPU test system with a GTX 1070 Ti has seen the game drop from an average framerate of 131FPS at 1080p (at Max settings) to 95FPS, presenting what appears to be a CPU utilisation issue. 

These performance changes are something that will change on a level-by-level basis, with framerate drops being smaller as the game’s rendering resolution is increased. At 4K we noted that the performance difference was almost negligible, confirming that this is not an issue of GPU performance. 

IO Interactive has confirmed that they are tracking reports of performance issues after Hitman’s Game Of the Year update, though right now, over two weeks after the update was released, there is still no patch to address the game’s performance issues.

Hopefully IO Interactive is working to address these issues on PC, as these issues are having a huge impact on the game’s playability for users of lower-end systems, with some saying that the game has become a “slideshow” in certain scenes.
