It’s HUGE! GTA 6’s storage requirements have been revealed

Console gamers may need a storage upgrade – GTA 6 is up to 212GB in size on consoles

Rockstar Games has officially confirmed Grand Theft Auto VI’s (GTA 6’s) storage requirements, and they are huge. With preload file sizes of up to 212 GB, Rockstar’s newest game may prompt a wave of console storage upgrades. Pre-loads start on November 10th, with the game releasing on November 19th. Code-in-box versions of GTA VI will be available from November 12th, with the game unlocking on November 19th.

Grand Theft Auto VI will require up to 212 GB of storage on consoles, meaning many gamers will have to delete a lot of files before downloading 2016’s biggest game. Pre-load downloads alone will take almost one-third of an 825GB PS5’s usable storage. For Xbox Series S users, this game will take up over half of the 512GB model’s usable storage.

With such a large download size, it is easy to see why Grand Theft Auto VI isn’t available on disc. This game is too large for even two  PS5 Blu-ray discs. This may explain why Rockstar made GTA VI’s physical version a “download code in a box” release. That said, curbing long-term used-game sales was likely their primary reason.

The arrival of Grand Theft Auto VI on PlayStation 5 and XBOX Series X|S consoles is now only a few weeks away. There’s still time to pre-order and ensure you’re able to experience Grand Theft Auto VI when it launches on November 19.

Digital pre-loading on PlayStation 5 will begin on Tuesday, November 10 at midnight local time in your respective time zone. On XBOX Series X|S, pre-loading begins globally on Tuesday, November 10 at 12 a.m. GMT. Code-in-box versions for both consoles should be available from retailers beginning November 12.

The pre-load file will require up to 212 GB depending on your device, so make sure you’ve got ample space to begin pre-loading as soon as possible.

At over 200GB, Grand Theft Auto VI players will likely need to uninstall several games to fit it on their consoles. Perhaps this will cause a spike in NVMe SSD sales, with PS5 users scrambling to add more storage to their systems.

GTA 6 is coming to Xbox Series X/S and PlayStation 5 on November 19th. The game will be available to pre-load from November 10th.
