Lossless Scaling beta to add 4x Frame Generation mode

Lossless Scaling is getting support for 4x Frame Generation this week

For the uninitiated, Lossless Scaling is a paid for software solution on Steam that enables various types of Upscaling and Frame Generation on all PC games. On the upscaling front, this includes Integer Scaling, AMD FSR 1, Nvidia Image Sharpening and more. Soon, a new beta version of Lossless scaling will enable support for a new “4x Frame Generation” mode, pushing Frame Generation technology to new heights. A new “surprise feature” will also be added.

Standard Frame Generation techniques have been used to effectively double the framerates games. Lossless Scaling’s planned 4x mode will utilise the same technology to deliver a 4x framerate boost. This means that for every single frame that is traditionally rendered, three more will be generated. Early testers have reported good results from this enhanced Frame Generation technique, revealing similar latency to the tool’s existing 2x Frame Generation mode. This new mode was revealed on the tool’s Discord server  (thanks WccfTech).

The beauty of Lossless Scaling’s Frame Generation feature is that it works on all games. This tech doesn’t require direct game integration. This means that unlike FSR 3 and DLSS 3 Frame Generation, it can be used across a broader range of PC games. Moreover, this technique can be used to increase the smoothness of games with framerate caps using generated frames. While image quality is not as high given this lack of integration, this technique still delivers strong upscaling results.

Below we can see the upcoming beta for Lossless Scaling, with its x4 Frame Generation mode, in action. Note the clean output of this post process frame generation technique.

Lossless Frames Beta VS AMD Fluid Motion Frames 2

Last week, AMD updated their driver-level Frame Generation technology with Fluid Motion Frames 2. This technique promises users lower latency frame generation and increased clarity. If Lossless scaling can deliver x4 Frame Generation, then we have to wonder is AMD could do the same with Fluid Motion Frames?
