Higher Quality, Lower Latency – AMD releases Fluid Motion Frames 2 Preview Drivers

AMD improves their in-driver Frame Generation with Fluid Motion Frames 2

AMD has today revealed their Fluid Motion Frames 2 technology, a new an enhanced version of the company’s driver-level Frame Generation technology for Radeon GPUs.

With this new version of Fluid Motion Frames, AMD has added new optimisations, tuneable settings, and a variety of new features to their unique driver-level Frame Generation solution. This includes added support for the Vulkan and OpenGL APIs, and compatibility with Radeon Chill.

This new version of AFMF included AI-optimisation for their hand developed frame generation algorithm. This has helped AMD to increase the smoothness of their driver-level frame generation technology and improved overall image quality

New AFMF 2 Features

Below is a list of improvements for AMD’s driver-level Frame Generation technology

  • Improved Image Quality
  • Performance improvements with “Performance Mode”
  • Borderless Fullscreen support
  • Vulkan API Game support
  • OpenGL API Game support
  • Radeon Chill Interoperability
  • Reduced Latency

AMD decreases Frame Generation Latency with Fluid Motion Frames 2.0

One of the largest changes to AMD’s AFMF technology is its reduced latency with version 2.0. In Cyberpunk 2077, latency is now 28% lower when using AMD’s new Fluid Motion Frames technique. This change makes games feel more responsive when AFMF is enabled. This lowers the impact of one of the only real downsides of today’s Frame Generation techniques.

When used with Radeon Anti-Lag 2 in Counter Strike 2, AMD’s lower latency frame generation technology can still deliver latency benefits. Below, we can see that AFMF 2 delivers 12% less latency than AFMF 1. That’s a solid improvement for AMD’s new driver-level frame generation technique.
