Microsoft fixes BSOD-causing gaming bug with Windows 11 update
Gamers on Windows should update now – Microsoft’s February 2026 update contains a ton of fixes
With its February 2026 update, Microsoft has reportedly addressed a longstanding Windows 11 “KERNEL_SCURITY_CHECK_FAILURE” BSOD (Blue/Black Screen of Death) issue. This issue appears to affect players of games with kernel-level anti-cheat, such as Marvel Rivals and Genshin Impact. According to Windows Latest, this bug has been a problem since 2023, though it appears to have become more common with more recent Windows 11 versions.
The good news is that Windows 11’s February update appears to have addressed this BSOD issue. This means that gamers who have experienced errors like this should update their Windows installs immediately.

One of the games wrecked by Windows 11’s January 2026 update was Forza Horizon 5. This issue arose after the release of Windows 11’s KB5074109 update. Earlier this month, Nvidia stated that they were “looking into it”. Now, according to Windows Latest, update KB5077181 has addressed Forza Horizon 5’s graphics issues. Furthermore, it appears to have addressed the black screen issues facing some Nvidia users.

Windows 11’s January 2026 update was a disaster. Gamers reported a range of issues, which has helped solidify Microsoft’s poor reputation. 2026 was supposed to be the year that Microsoft fixed Windows, but it has had a bad start. Hopefully, Microsoft will make significant headway as the year progresses. Rumour has it that Microsoft plans to walk back some of its AI integrations and focus on improving the user experience.
