Nvidia reveals Ansel RTX – Enhancing Ansel with Ray Tracing and AI
Outside of RTX features, Nvidia has enabled Ansel support for over 150 games that do not offer native support for Ansel, providing support for screenshots, filter, HDR, super-resolution (AI-only) and HUD removal (filtered). While this feature list is not as long as it is for games that offer full support for Ansel, it delivers Nvidia users another useful feature that AMD/Radeon users lack. Today, over 50 games support Ansel natively.Â
One of Ansel RTX’s newest features is support for Ansel RT, which allows Ray Traced game elements to be cranked up to offer increased detail. In Assetto Corsa Competizione, Ansel RT can increase refractions per pixel by 10X, Ambient Occlusion samples by 12X, shadow samples by 32X, and reflection samples by 40X, all of which improves image quality for enhanced in-game screenshots. Â
GeForce RTX graphics cards feature dedicated ray-tracing processors called RT Cores, which accelerate and deliver real-time ray tracing for games. Ansel RTXâs newest feature, Ansel RT, uses that tech to create ray traced Ansel photos with the highest-possible fidelity.
Hereâs how it works: when youâre in Ansel mode in a supported ray-traced game and fly around using your free camera, the game engine uses your in-game graphics settings. The moment you pause movement, Ansel RT quickly cranks up the level of ray-tracing to beyond real-time levels for the best possible in-game photo.
Â
In addition to Ray Tracing support, Ansel RTX support “AI UP-RES” which uses the AI/Tensor performance of Nvidia’s RTX series graphics cards to increase the resolution of screenshots to create a more detailed final image. AI Up Res supports resolutions of up to 8K, an 8x increase over 1080p, though the final image will likely not be as detailed as an actual 8K screenshot. Â

With this update to Ansel, Nvidia users can now make use of the software across a larger number of games than ever before. Support for games without Nvidia’s Ansel SDK is new, though sadly this support is limited enough to make the feature seem useless to many users, as Ansel’s free camera is often essential for capturing the perfect in-game images.Â
More information about Ansel RTX is available on Nvidia’s website. Ansel RTX will arrive with a future version of Nvidia’s Geforce Experience application, which will be available with future Geforce drivers.Â
