PS3 Emulator RPCS3 clears its “loadable” category

RPCS3’s rapid progress continues – the “Loadable” category is now clear

The RPCS3 team has reached another major milestone. Just a few weeks ago, over 80% of PlayStation 3 (PS3) games reached playable status on RPCS3. Now, the RPCS3 team has officially cleared the emulator’s “loadable” category. That means that all PS3 games are now classed as “Intro” or better.

Thanks to a new SPU accuracy fix from Yahfz, Tom Clancy’s HAWX 2 has now moved from “Intro” to “Ingame”. This was the final game within RPCS3’s “Loadable” category. It is currently unknown how this fix impacts other PS3 games, though this increase in SPU accuracy could solve bugs in other emulated games.

This year, RPCS3’s game compatibility has dramatically improved. Clearing the emulator’s “loadable” category reflects the RPCS3 team’s drive for better emulation accuracy and performance. Now, the next target is getting all PS3 games “Ingame”. That means clearing RPCS3’s “Intro” category. The good news is that the RPCS3 team has already made huge progress on this front. In January 2026, over 100 games were classified as “Intro”. Today, only 22 games are in this category.

RPCS3 continues to improve

The PlayStation 3 (PS3) is one of the most complex game consoles ever created. It uses hardware that is unlike any modern console or gaming PC, making it a challenging device to emulate. With this in mind, it is incredible that the RPCS3 team has delivered such an excellent tool. This is especially true given Sony’s lack of support for its classic games on modern hardware. Sony is unlikely to remaster or re-release its PS3 hits. This means that emulation may eventually be the only way to preserve the PlayStation 3’s gaming library. After all, working PS3 consoles will only become rarer over time.
