Psychonauts 2 has been delayed

Double Fine Productions has confirmed that Psychonauts 2 will not release in 2019, with the company delaying the game until 2020 to ensure that the game ships at a higher level of overall quality.

Psychonauts 2 is set to release on PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4, with Double Fine committing themselves to support all of these platforms despite being a first party studio for Microsoft. Microsoft announced their acquisition of Double Fine Entertainment at E3 2019, adding the developers to their collection of Xbox Games Studios.

Like its predecessors, Psychonauts 2 will be a 3rd person action platformer where players once again take control of Raz, who must hone his PSI abilities to complete his work as a secret agent. The game is currently being developed using Unreal Engine 4, with game’s PC version supporting Windows, MacOS and Linux.

The first gameplay trailer for Psychonauts 2 was released at E3 2019 and is available to view below. Double Fine released the following statement regarding Psychonauts 2’s delay.

There really shouldn’t be too many other noticeable changes for you at all, at least not for a while…with one notable exception: We’re now targeting next year for release. We know it’s always disappointing when you have to wait a bit longer, but we also know that you are an amazing, supportive bunch, who – just like us – want the game to be as good as possible. So we’re hopeful you’ll understand!
