Red Dead Redemption has higher PC system requirements than its better-looking successor

Red Dead Redemption is more demanding than its successor on PC

Red Dead Redemption is coming to PC this month, and its PC system requirements are a little puzzling. Despite the game’s origins on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, the game’s PC hardware requirements are surprisingly high, higher than Red Dead Redemption 2, the game’s sequel.

The game’s minimum and recommended hardware requirements list higher-end CPUs and GPUs than its successor. This suggests that the game will not be as well optimised as its successor on PC. However, the game’s Xbox 360-era origins should allow modern gaming PCs to easily overpower these limitations. After all, modern gaming PCs are much more powerful than 2010-era consoles.

On PC, Red Dead Redemption will feature support for AMD FSR 3.0, Nvidia DLSS 3.7, 4K resolutions, and several “PC-specific” enhancements. As such, gamers can expect Red Dead Redemption to look best on PC. However, the game’s visuals will still look dated due to this game’s age.

Below are the system requirements for Red Dead Redemption. Note that this game is a DirectX 12 title and recommends that players use SSD storage. These system requirements are lower than those of most modern PC game releases. However, they are high when considering that this is a PC port of a game from 2010. Red Dead Redemption will be available through Steam, the Epic Games Store, and Rockstar Store on October 29th.
