Sega’s Mega Drive Mini console has been delayed in Europe

Sega has delayed the European release of their Mega Drive/Genesis Mini console in Europe, citing “unavoidable logistical challenges”. Before now, Sega was targetting a global September 19th release date, but now the European and Middle East release date has been pushed back to October 4th. 

With the release of their classic console, Sega plans to deliver users a total of 42 games, which includes the rare Mega Drive version of Tetris and Darius, a game that never officially released on the platform. At launch, SEGA’s Mega Drive and Genesis Mini consoles will cost £69.99 in the UK, €79.99 in Europe and $79.99 in the US.

Right now we know that the console ships with two USB controllers, a Micro-USB power input and an HDMI display output. SEGA’s Mega Drive Mini console is currently available for pre-order, 

Hopefully, SEGA’s mini consoles will offer a high enough level of emulation quality to satisfy both hardcore Genesis/Mega Drive fans and casual gamers alike, an not act as a repeat of Sony’s failings with the PlayStation Classic.

Sega released the following statement regarding the delay of their Mega Drive Mini console.

 

     We are committed to a successful launch for consumers in all territories, and this step will ensure we can meet demand and fulfil all the individual pre-orders and retail orders in Europe and the Middle East at the same time,

Customers in those regions are still able to preorder from participating retailers and those who have already preordered will only have to wait an extra two weeks for their little box full of retro magic.
