Sharp has created this monitor using their IGZO technology, offering 800 nits of brightness for HDR content. Earlier 8K 120Hz displays from Sharp required eight DisplayPort 1.2 cables to operate, though today’s DisplayPort 1.4 cables would enable the company to reduce their cable requirements to four cables, or fewer if they decide to use DisplayPort 1.4’s Display Stream Compression 1.2 features. Multi-cable screens are not very user-friendly, making 8K 120Hz monitors most suitable for professional use cases at this time.Â
Sharp also showcases an 8K 120Hz All-in-One desktop prototype, revealing a Mac Pro like device with an insane single screen resolution alongside HDR capabilities. In this case, the all-in-one nature of this system helps to cut down on cable clutter, as the display’s connections to the user’s PC are all internalised into the monitor’s frame.Â
