Sony has announced that they will be removing PlayStation Now support from most devices, leaving only the PC and PS4 with official support.

On April 1st, 2017, Sony will be dropping PlayStation Now support on their 2016 range of Sony Bravia TVs, with the company dropping support for PlayStation 3, PlayStation Vita, PlayStation TV, 2013-2015 Sony Bravia TVs, Sony Blu-ray players and all currently compatible Samsung TVs.

PlayStation Now will now be focused on PC and PS4 platforms, with the company planning to further improve the gameplay experience on both systems moving forward.

After thoughtful consideration, we decided to shift our focus and resources to PS4 and Windows PC to further develop and improve the user experience on these two devices. This move puts us in the best position to grow the service even further.

If you use any of the affected devices, we want to give our heartfelt thanks for your support, and we hope you’ll continue with us. Remember that all of your PS Now cloud game saves can easily be accessed on both PS4 and Windows PC.

To say the least this act from Sony is hugely disappointing, especially for those that bought TVs or Blu-ray players specifically because these features were present.

While consumers cannot expect online services like PlayStation Now to last forever, it is likely that there will be a huge consumer backlash from those that have purchased recent Sony and Samsung TVs which contained support for PlayStation Now, especially 2016 TV models.

Those who own any of these affected devices will need to cancel their PlayStation Now subscriptions, as Sony will not automatically cancel the subscriptions of users outside of the PS4 and PC ecosystems.
