The Ascent looks incredible in first-person

The Ascent, the cyberpunk isometric shooter/role-playing game already looks great from the game’s fixed top-down perspective, but what happens when you take control of the camera and walk across the game’s streets yourself?

The YouTuber Griff Griffin has showcased what The Ascent would look like as a first-person title, using the Universal Unreal Engine 4 Unlocker to explore the game with a fully controllable camera.

Shocking levels of detail

For a game that’s designed to be viewed using a far off isometric position, The Ascent looks incredible from a first-person viewpoint. The game’s aesthetic holds up beautifully to close scrutiny, so much so that we’d argue that The Ascent looks better in first-person than many first-person titles.

Character models are surprisingly detailed up close, and objects like magazines and clutter items are surprisingly detailed given their size. The game looks so good that The Ascent could easily pass off as a pre-release build of Cyberpunk 2077 in this state. If Curve Digital ever dicides to make a first-person title, I’m sure it would look phenomenal.

Sadly, The Ascent isn’t playable in this state. The Ascent is a twin-stick shooter and that gameplay does not work with a first-person viewpoint. That said, this deeper dive into The Ascent’s environments highlight the levels of artistry that can be seen within this low budget title. The Ascent was developed by a team of 12, and it blows many AAA titles out of water graphically.

The Ascent is currently available on PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5. On PC and Xbox, The Ascent is available as part of Xbox Game Pass.
