The Epic Games Launcher V2 promises a HUGE speed boost

Epic Games is planning to launch a storefront redesign and has promised a much faster launcher

The Epic Games Store and launcher are undergoing a major transformation. Soon, the Epic Games Store will be getting a redesign, and a new version of the Epic Games launcher will be released. Next year, the Epic Games Store experience should be unrecognisable, and that’s great news for PC gamers.

For starters, the Epic Games Storefront is getting redesigned to enable customisation/personalisation and improve game discovery. Game listings will also include more details, including dynamic elements that are specific to users.

Patch notes will soon be viewable on the Epic Games Store

Patch notes will soon be viewable from the Epic Games Store. This means that players will not need to leave the platform to access this information. This is something that Steam is relatively good at, so it is great to see feature parity from the Epic Games Store.

The Epic Games Store launcher will soon be much faster

Epic Games has built a “ground-up rebuild of the Epic Games Launcher”, and their new version promises 5x faster cold starts and up to 6.5x faster system tray restores to the library. In other words, the Epic Games Store should no longer feel slow and laggy. This is one of the most common complaints from Epic Games Store users, so it is great to see this getting addressed.

An ambitious roadmap for the next 12 months

Epic Games has also released a detailed roadmap of their development priorities for the Epic Games Store. This includes their V2 launcher, performance improvements, and the delivery of long-awaited features like written game reviews and community features. Universal Controller Support is also planned, though it is unclear what this means.

Hopefully, this revitalised effort from Epic Games will make the Epic Games Store a stronger competitor to Steam. Many of these features have been long-promised, and hopefully Epic will be able to deliver them within the next 12 months as planned. That said, Epic has promised many of these changes for years now. Will they be true to their word this time?
