Total War: Shogun 2 Complete Edition is a game-changing upgrade

Total War: Shogun 2 Complete Edition is releasing next month

Creative Assembly has unveiled Total War: Shogun 2 Complete Edition, a new version of Shogun 2 that includes all the game’s DLC, new content, upgraded visuals, and more. In effect, this isn’t a Complete Edition; it’s an upgraded/remastered version of the game.

Content-wise, this new version includes Shogun 2, all its DLC content (including Rise and Fall of the Samurai, but excluding the Blood Pack), and access to over 50 new playable minor factions. The game has also been upgraded to 64-bit, and integrated mod support is available through Mod.io. New Japanese and Chinese voice acting is available, as are modernised controls and UI upscaling for 1440p and 4K displays.

Visually, Shogun 2’s new complete edition will feature updated lighting, shadows, textures, and other changes. This should make Total War: Shogun 2 look better than ever before on PC.

Availability

Total War: Shogun 2 Complete Edition will be available for £34.99 / €39.99 / $39.99 on Steam, the Epic Games Store, Microsoft Store, and GOG. The game launches on October 13th. Once the game releases, the old version of Total War: Shogun 2 will no longer be available for purchase. However, it will be included as a free add-on with the Complete Edition’s Steam version.

What if I already own Shogun 2?

Until November 12th, owners of the original Total War: Shogun 2 can purchase the game’s Complete Edition at a 75% loyalty discount. Owners of the original game will also get all DLC unlocked for free, even if they do not buy the Complete Edition. The Complete Edition upgrade will give gamers access to new factions, upgraded visuals, 64-bit support, and other Complete Edition upgrades.

What about legacy mod support?

Unfortunately, legacy mods for Total War: Shogun 2 will not be supported with the game’s Complete Edition. Complete Edition is launching as a 64-bit game with integrated Mod.io support, laying the groundwork for improved support for future game mods. Sadly, this means that existing mods will need to be reworked for Complete Edition. Alternatively, gamers can continue playing Shogun 2’s original PC version, which will continue to support legacy game mods.
