ADATA releases compact ISMS331 series of DOM SSDs

Computing innovation has always been shown with the creation of increasingly powerful hardware in increasingly smaller form factors, whether it be the shrinking of PCs from room-sized to pocket-sized or offering larger data capacities without an increase in physical size.

Shrinking the size requirements of storage has always opened up a lot of exciting options for new products, be it increasing RAM and storage capacities in the mobile market or offering SATA-surpassing SSD performance in the tiny M.2 form factor. This has allowed consumer PCs to become thinner and lighter and has enabled embedded devices to take up almost no space at all within the products they occupy.

ADATA has officially launched their new ISMS331 series of “industrial-grade” SSDs, offering advanced features like ECC error correcting features and self-diagnostic capabilities in a form factor that is almost as small as the SATA interface itself.

This product will ship with 4GB-32GB SLC and 8-128GB MLC variants; offering read/write speeds of 300/260MBps and 300/180MBps respectfully. These new SSDs are designed for use in the embedded market, not the consumer PC market, making their tiny form factor and durability critical aspects of their design.

With a low power consumption rating of 1.56W, usable temperature ranges of -40 to 90 degrees and a humidity range of 5% to 95%, the ISMS331 is designed to handle almost any use case.

With this product, we can see what is possible with such an insanely small form factor, delivering a compelling offering in use cases where a compact form factor is essential and the use of BGA mounted/directly soldered storage isn’t an option.
