Corsair officially launches their PCIe 5.0 MP700 SSD

Corsair has launched 1TB and 2TB MP700 PCIe 5.0 SSDs, boasting speeds of up to 10,000MB/s

Corsair has now officially launched their new MP700 SSD, the company’s first PCIe 5.0 SSD. This SSD is now available in 1TB and 2TB capacities and offer users sequential read and write speeds of up to 10,000 MB/s, which is up to 40% faster than the fastest PCIe 4.0 SSDs available.

With the launch of their MP700 SSD, Corsair has taken the bold decision to not ship their SSD with a pre-attached heatsink, and instead has recommended that users of this drive either buy their own 3rd party SSD heatsink or simply utilise your motherboard’s built-in M.2 SSD cooling solution. These heatsinks will allow the MP700 to deliver optimal performance levels under sustained loads.

CORSAIR, a world leader in enthusiast components for gamers, creators, and PC builders, today announced the launch of the MP700, its first PCIe Gen 5 M.2 SSD. Available in capacities up to 2 TB, the MP700 sets a new standard for next-generation storage, with sequential read and write performance topping out an incredible 10,000 MB/sec and 10,000 MB/sec respectively—up to 40% faster than even the best PCIe 4.0 SSDs available today.

On top of the impressive sequential throughput, the random read and write performance of up to 1.5 million read and 1.7 million write input/output operations per second (IOPS) put the MP700 way ahead of the best PCIe Gen 4 drives. The MP700 is backward compatible with PCIe 4.0 motherboards, making this an upgrade that will last you for years to come. Native support for Microsoft DirectStorage ensures that you’ll get the most from the latest games, while copying files in Windows and loading applications has never felt so fast.

Corsair’s MP700 SSD is a standard M.2 2280 sized NVMe SSD, and it ships with native support for Microsoft’s DirectStorage technology, ensuring strong performance when used with new DirectStorage games and other storage-heavy workloads.

With Corsair’s SSD Toolbox software, users of Corsair’s MP700 SSD will be able to upgrade the firmware on their MP700 and utilise features like secure erase to ensure that their drives are up to date with the latest firmware revisions and that data is securely removed from the drive when necessary. Firmware updates for modern SSDs can enable increased performance levels in many workloads, making Corsair’s SSD Toolbox a useful tool for PC builders who want to make sure that they get the best performance from their systems.

Utilizing the industry-standard M.2 2280 form-factor, the MP700 installs easily into desktop motherboards for great all-around compatibility. To achieve its optimal performance, the MP700 requires additional cooling, with users able to choose between using their motherboard’s integrated M.2 cooling system, or an aftermarket M.2 SSD cooler such as the CORSAIR Hydro X Series XM2 Water Block. This water block fits easily into your custom cooling loop, delivering top-of-the-line cooling and performance while virtually eliminating throughput throttling.

Like all CORSAIR SSDs, the MP700 is supported by free CORSAIR SSD Toolbox software, enabling convenient features such as secure erase and firmware updates directly from your desktop. With a five-year warranty for extended peace of mind that your storage will remain fast and reliable, the MP700 takes full advantage of PCIe Gen 5 technology to set a new standard for M.2 performance.

Currently, Corsair’s MP700 SSD is now available on Corsair’s website for £169.99 and £279.99 for the drive’s 1TB and 2TB models respectively. This SSD does not ship with a heatsink, though Corsair expects users of this drive to attach an aftermarket heatsink or use your motherboards integrated M.2 heatsink to deliver optimal performance levels.
