Crucial reveals its P2 series of affordable M.2 NVMe SSDs

Crucial’s ready to release its P2 series of SSDs, succeeding the company’s existing P1 models to deliver high-end system performance with that’s expected to be QLC NAND memory. 

Much like Crucial’s P1 series of SSD, the company’s marketing materials for its P2 series lacks any NAND distinction, making the memory type used by the company unknown. While the company is expected to be using QLC memory, this hasn’t been confirmed by the manufacturer. Even so, TLC is the only NAND type that makes sense for such an affordable NVMe SSD. 

Strangely, the Crucial P2 lacks a 1TB model at the time of writing, instead offering users a 250GB model and a 500GB version. Performance-wise, the Crucial P2 provides users up to 2300MB/s sequential read speeds and 1150MB/s sequential write speeds on its 250GB model and 2300MB/s read speeds and 940MB/s write speeds on its 500GB model. In the UK, Crucial prices these SSDs at £52.79 and £62.39 on its website respectively. In the US, these SSDs are priced at $54.99 and $64.99, respectively. 

Both P2 SSD models ship with 5-year warranties. Strangely, when compared to today’s 500GB P1 SSD from Crucial, the company’s 500GB P2 model offers faster maximum read performance and lower maximum write performance. Crucial’s 500GB P1 model offers users 1,900MB/s sequential read speeds and 95oMB/s sequential write speeds.
