GIGABYTE Introduce their CMT403x series of M.2-to-PCIe cards

Gigabyte has launched their new CTM403X series of M.2 to PCIe riser cards, allowing PC users to convert PCIe 3.0 slots into separate M.2 (22110) slots with 4x wiring each.

Motherboards that use this card have to support PCIe segmentation, as the device has no built-in logic, limiting this device to specific use cases. Even so, this device can enable PC builders to fit more M.2 NVMe devices into smaller form factors than ever before, with competing M.2-to-PCIe devices using a full height PCIe form factor.     

Gigabyte’s device is available in two flavours, with their CMT4034 offering support for up to four M.2 NVMe (PCIe x4) devices over a PCIe 16x connection and their CMT4032 which supports two M.2 NVMe (PCIe x4) devices over a PCIe 8x connection. The CMT4034 supports two M.2 cards in each side of the device’s PCB while the CMT4032 supports two M.2 devices on a single side of the device’s PCB, as shown below. 

Both devices include heat spreaders, thermal sensors and activity LEDs for each drive on the device. Gigabyte has not revealed the retail price of this device at this time.
