Kingston Launches their next-generation KC2000 series of M.2 NVMe SSDs

The thinking behind the KC2000 is simple, create an SSD that offers more performance and higher capacities than their KC1000 by utilising new controller technology from Silicon motion and 96-layer TLC NAND. 

When compared the KC1000, which offers sequential read/write speeds of 2,700/1,600MB/s, the KC2000 offer much higher levels of read/write performance, delivering sequential read/write levels of up to 3,200/2,200 MB/s despite moving from MLC NAND to 3D TLC NAND. On the lower-end, Kingston’s 250GB and 500GB KC2000 models offer lower performance levels, but they remain impressively fast, offering up to  3,000/1,100MB/s and 3,000/2,000MB/s performance levels in sequential read/writes respectively.    

Each model of Kingston’s KC2000 operates using PCIe 3.0 over a 4x interface using the M.2 interface, with each drive fitting into the M.2 2280 form factor. Kingston backs this drive up with a 5-year limited warranty with their 250GB, 500GB, 1TB and 2TB models shipping with 150TBW (TeraByte Witten), 300TBW, 600TBW and 1,200TBW reliability ratings.

Kingston’s new KC series drives are designed for high-performance consumer systems and are designed to ship with $62.40 (250GB), $114.40 (500GB), $201.50 (1TB), and $410.80 (2TB) price tags in the US. At this time UK and EU pricing for the KC2000 sere unknown, though retail availability is expected within the next few weeks.
