Micron claims their new 9550 is the “World’s fastest data center SSD”
Micron pushes the limits of data center storage performance with their new 9550 series of NVMe SSDs
Micron have created what they believe to be the “world’s fastest data center SSD”, promising users up to 67% more performance than competing solutions for the enterprise market. Today, Micron have launched their new 9550 series of PCIe 5.0 NVMe SSDs, promising users top-class performance and leading power efficiency in AI workloads.
With sequential read/write speeds of 14/10 GB/s, these SSDs are ideal for today’s demanding workloads. Additionally, its random reads of 3,300 KIOPS are up to 35% better and random writes of 400 KIOPS are up to 33% better than competitive offerings.
Micron has specifically targeted this SSD at the emerging AI market. For these workloads, high-speed data access matters. Micron claims that their new 9550 series SSDs outperform competitive offerings in critical AI workloads, with up to 33% faster workload completion times and up to 60% faster feature aggregation in GNN training with Big Accelerator Memory (BaM). Furthermore, Micron has claims to deliver 34% higher levels of throughput for Nvidia Magnum IO GPUDirect Storage.
With their new 9550 SSDs, Micron claims to also deliver efficiency leadership. Below, Micron’s Alvaro Toledo claims that their new data center SSDs can consumer up to 43% less power than comparable SSDs in AI workloads. Those are some huge power efficiency gains for users.
“The Micron 9550 SSD represents a giant leap forward for data center storage, delivering a staggering 3.3 million IOPS while consuming up to 43% less power than comparable SSDs in AI workloads such as GNN and LLM training,” said Alvaro Toledo, vice president and general manager of Micron’s Data Center Storage group. “This unparalleled performance, combined with exceptional power efficiency, establishes a new benchmark for AI storage solutions and demonstrates Micron’s unwavering commitment to spearheading the AI revolution.”
Micron’s new 9550 series SSDs will be available in the popular U.2, E1.S and E3.S SSD form factors with capacities ranging from 3.2TB to 30.72TB.
