Samsung refutes consumer SSD phase-out rumours
Samsung denies SATA SSD phase-out rumours, calling them false
Samsung has officially denied reports that it plans to phase out its SATA SSDs and other consumer products. This follows recent rumours that Samsung planned to wind down its SATA SSD production to free up manufacturing capacity for data centre and AI customers.
With Micron killing its Crucial consumer SSD and memory brand, it is easy to see why Samsung’s consumer SSD phase-out rumours gained traction. Now, Samsung has pushed back against this narrative. Given the popularity of Samsung’s SSDs among consumers, reports of a halt to consumer SSD supply could trigger panic buying, placing even more strain on the already constrained storage market. Samsung’s prompt and direct response to these reports is welcome.
The rumor regarding the phasing out of Samsung SATA or other SSDs is false.

Thanks to the rapid rollout of AI datacenters, DRAM and NAND have seen rapid price increases. Demand is outstripping supply, especially for DRAM. This has made PC components and completed systems much more expensive. It could take years for the memory market to return to normal. Thankfully, Samsung has no plans to stop producing consumer SSDs, at least for now.
