Western Digital are preparing a PCIe 4.0 compatible SN580 BLUE SSD

Western Digital’s new SN580 SSD brings the company’s mainstream drives into the PCIe 4.0 performance category

Western Digital’s mainstream BLUE series of SSDs are getting upgraded, with the company’s upcoming SN580 BLUE drives starting to appear for pre-order at retailers.

With their upcoming SN580 BLUE SSD, Western Digital are moving their SN BLUE series drives over to PCIe 4.0, enabling higher levels of storage performance over a faster PCIe interface and a newer PCIe 4.0 compatible SSD controller. Below we can see a retail listing for a 2TB version of this SSD, and it is probable that we will also see 500GB and 1TB SN580 SSDs at launch.

Sadly, the specifications of Western Digital’s upcoming SN580 BLUE SSD are unknown, though the drive is undoubtedly faster than their existing SN570 models. With the move to PCIe 4.0, it is clear that Western Digital are taking the performance of their mainstream PCIe SSDs to new hights.

Like other BLUE series drives, the Western Digital SN580 BLUE is expected to be a budget-friendly SSD for mainstream users. As such, you should not expect this drive to be an industry leader in terms of raw performance, though you can expect to to deliver strong value for money with low pricing and stronger performance than its predecessors.
