Western Digital updates its WD BLUE series with their new PCIe 4.0 SN580 SSD

Western Digital has upgraded their WD BLUE series of SSDs with new NAND and an updated controller

Western Digital has revealed a new addition to their WD BLUE family of SSDs, a new DRAM-less SSD option that features BiCS 5 112 layer TLC NAND and capacity options up to 2TB.

The WD BLUE SN580 will replace the company’s existing WD BLUE SN570 SSDs, offering improvements in the form of PCIe 4.0 support, increased responsiveness, optimised firmware, and sequential read speeds as high as 4,150 MB/s. These specifications make the WD BLUE SN580 a lower-end PCIe 4.0 SSD, but also makes this drive notably faster than Western Digital’s PCIe 3.0 SN570 SSD.

At launch, Western Digital’s new SN580 SSD will be available with 250GB, 500GB, 1TB, and 2TB capacity options. All drives will come with a 5-year warranty, SLC caching, and a 0.25 DWPD (Drive Write Per Day) rating. Unlike other manufacturers, Western Digital has not moved to QLC NAND for their budget-oriented SN580 SSD, sticking with TLC NAND for this drive.
