Things certainly don’t stand still in the world of system announcements.

A couple of days ago we told you that Intel were stopping production of their Next Unit Compute (NUC) systems. Then yesterday we heard the announcement that ASUS will be taking over both production of current NUC setups and development of the next, if you’ll pardon the pun, NUC.

Naturally our curiousity was piqued. Would this mean that we’d get some NUCs with all the flash and flair for which the Republic of Gamers arm of ASUS are most famous? Will there be a Strix model? A crazy powerful one? Well, we barely had time to get down the pub and order a pint to discuss it when the announcement came from ASUS that not only is there going to be a new compact system, but it’s going to be at the top of the performance tree :

So there we have it. Whether this is piggy-backing off the recent ASUS NUC announcement, and is potentially the first ASUS ROG NUC, or whether this is merely a coincidental announcement of a new high-end gaming system, those of you who love the ROG Eye logo have cause for celebration.

What do you think? Is this a ROG NUC or just an ASUS system? Let us know in our OC3D Forums.
