Nintendo announces Switch 2 price increases

Nintendo raises Switch 2 pricing to appease shareholder anger

Following reports of pressure from shareholders, Nintendo has announced price increases for its Switch 2 console in Japan, the US, Canada, and Europe. In Japan, price increases will start on May 25th, while price increases in other regions will start on September 1st.

In Europe, the price of a Switch 2 will increase from €469.99 to €499.99, a €30 increase. In the US, the console’s price will increase by $50 to $499.99. Nintendo has blamed the price increase on “changes in market conditions” and apologised for it.

With the rising cost of memory and other components, a price increase for Nintendo’s Switch 2 seemed inevitable. In recent months, Sony has already increased the price of its PlayStation 5 consoles. Nintendo is undoubtedly facing similar pressures.

In the US, Nintendo’s baseline Switch 2 price will soon match its older “bundle” price. Previously, $499.99 would get gamers a Switch 2 with a popular Nintendo game like Mario Kart World. Soon, this price will get you the console alone.
