Noctua NV-FS1 Desk Fan and HOME lineup Review

An Introduction to Noctua HOME and their NV-FS1 Desk Fan

Meet the Noctua NV-FS1 Desk Fan

Last month, Noctua introduced their HOME series of cooling products, giving consumers access to a range of outside-PC cooling solutions. Headlining this new product category is the Noctua NV-FS1 Desk fan, a compact, but powerful, personal cooling solution.

As the UK faces the summer heat, personal cooling is more important than ever. Air conditioning is not common here, and that makes fan-based solutions like the NV-FS1 incredibly valuable. If you work with a PC in a stuffy office, this fan set can make the difference between a comfortable working environment, and an unproductive one. How do I know this? I’m using the NV-FS1 right now to mitigate the summer’s heat.

An effective, but pricy, solution

Noctua’s NV-FS1 is one implementation of the products within Noctua’s HOME range. It comes with a NV-FM1 pivoting fan mount, a compact NA-FC1 fan controller, a NV-PS1 230/115V power supply, and a NF-A12x25 120mm fan with an NV-AA1 airflow amplifier. Separately, these products cost £125, but together they cost around £85 at the time of writing.

With his fan set, I can adjust fan speeds using Noctua’s NA-FC1 fan controller, and position the fan optimally with Noctua’s NV-FM1 pivoting fan mount. This fan mount can be attached using magnets, or screwed in place wherever you want to place it. It even comes with screws and wall plugs for wall mounting. With Noctua’s power adapter, it can be powered from any power outlet.

As a personal cooling solution, it just works. Noctua’s NF-A12x25 fans can push a lot of air, and do so quietly. Noctua’s NV-AA1 airflow amplifier adds to this by directing the fan’s airflow and adding to it using the venturi effect. If you take the airflow amplifier off Noctua’s NV-FS1 fan set, you will feel the difference.

The beauty of Noctua’s HOME product range is that you can buy individual parts for your projects or fan kits as an all-in-one solution. If you just want airflow pointed as your face, the NV-FS1 desk fan set is what you need. If you want to add airflow to an electronics cupboard, networking closet or home media system, perhaps the NV-FS2 Multi-purpose fan set is what you need.

Noctua NV-FS2 Multi-Purpose Device Fan Set

For £69, Noctua has their NV-FS2 fan set. This is a product that is designed for product and area cooling. It takes away the pivoting fan mount of the NV-FS1 fan set and adds thick rubber anti-vibration gaskets. This allows this fan set to be placed on top of hot running devices to push air through their ventilation holes. This is ideal for A/V receivers, stereo equipment, routers, and other electronics.

Users can also set it on its side and simply use this fan set to direct airflow wherever you need it. If you want your home entertainment system to run cooler, this can add some much-needed airflow into the mix. Versatility is the name of the game here. That means that the cooling potential of this product is only limited by your imagination.
