ASUS Strix RTX 4070 Ti Review
Introduction
Any time there is a new product launch on the block you can be certain that ASUS will reach into their ROG bag of tricks and come up with a Strix version of that product. When they sell in the quantities that they do, we can’t really blame them. If you’ve already seen our reviews of the RTX 4000 series Strix cards then the image at the top of this page might seem familiar. However, as we’ll show you on the next page, it’s not as clear as it might seem.
The latest addition to the Nvidia Ada Lovelace range, the RTX 4070 Ti, breaks a few rules that seem to be long established.
For most of us the Nvidia graphics card line up runs as follows. The x060 is for those with tight budgets who play less demanding games or don’t mind running on medium settings. The x070 is found in the rigs of enthusiastic gamers still with fiscal limitations. The x080 is for the hardcore gamer and the x090 is designed for those who will accept nothing but the best. Then, six months later, the Ti models of those cards appear which refine everything to give extra performance just before the next generation appears. Usually that next generation moves everything up a level, so the RTX 3070 Ti matched the RTX 2080 Ti, and so on. Not only does this card claim to match the flagship Ampere card, but there isn’t a Founders Edition either.
So how does the Strix fare against the other graphic card options around?
Technical Specifications
The RTX 4070 Ti gives us a brilliant indication of how generational changes can improve things. As we already know the results the RTX 3090 is a good comparison card. That had 82 SMs (60 here), 10496 CUDA Cores, 328 Tensor Cores (3rd Gen) and 82 RT Cores (2nd Gen). Numbers that the RTX 4070 Ti doesn’t remotely match, and yet the performance… But we’re getting ahead of ourselves.
