Dying Light: The Beast Hotfix 1.2.3 fixes DLSS Frame Generation support

Dying Light: The Beast’s newest update greatly improves DLSS support within the game

When we released our PC Performance Review for Dying Light: The Beast, we noted that the game’s DLSS support needed work. Specifically, the game stuttered frequently when DLSS Frame Generation was enabled. This was detected by our framerate analysis tools and was severe enough to lower our 1st percentile framerates significantly. Now, thanks to Hotfix 1.2.3, DLSS Frame Generation support is greatly improved. The game now runs much smoother, though some stutters remain.

During our testing, we narrowed down this DLSS Frame Generation stuttering issue to Nvidia Reflex. Enabling this feature, even without Frame Generation, resulted in stuttering issues. Below, we can see how Dying Light: The Beast ran using the game’s day-1 version. When DLSS Frame Generation is enabled, the gap between the 5th percentile and the 1st percentile framerates gets wider. This is especially true when Multi-Frame Generation is enabled.

Update 1.2.3 delivers much smoother framerates/frametimes

With Update/Hotfix 1.2.3, Dying Light: The Beast can now achieve much smoother framerates when using DLSS Frame Generation. 1st percentile framerates are greatly improved, making the game much smoother.

We will note that not all stutters were resolved with update 1.2.3. However, the problem has been greatly alleviated. Now, DLSS Frame Generation is usable in Dying Light: The Beast. Until now, we couldn’t recommend DLSS Frame Generation because of the stutters Nvidia Reflex caused. Note that Nvidia Reflex is enabled automatically when DLSS Frame Generation is enabled.

Ray Tracing remains missing from Dying Light: The Beast

Dying Light: The Beast launched without support for ray tracing. Techland has stated that enabling ray tracing support is a “top priority” for the studio. Currently, Dying Light: The Beast’s ray tracing update has no ETA.
