Gears 5 PC Performance Review & Optimisation Guide

CPU Performance – Does Gears 5 require a high core/thread count?

Soo… how much CPU does Gears 5 demand? Well, based on the game’s PC system requirements, it’s either a hex-core AMD FX chip or a Skylake i3 (Dual-Core with four Threads). We recommend that PC gamers play gears with a strong quad-core or better.

In our dual-core hyperthreaded test, we found that Gears 5 struggled to achieve 60 FPS framerates. Yes, a dual-core could be ideal for a locked 30FPS, but we know that that isn’t what most PC gamers will be targetting in Gears 5.

Using a CPU with four strong cores will ensure that you can achieve 60FPS framerates. With our test hardware, hyperthreading made little to no difference Gears 5 game performance. Upping our core count to six also results in a significant boost to game performance, showcasing how multi-threaded Gears 5 can be.

Users of decent quad-core processors should be happy with their performance in Gears 5. That said, users of higher core count systems will have a much better time achieving high framerate gameplay.
