Intel now offer Pentium CPUs with Hyperthreading

With the release of Kaby Lake, Intel are now offering Pentium branded CPUs with Hyperthreading, allowing consumers to get two cores and four threads at some insanely low prices.

With the addition of hyperthreading Intel’s Pentium CPUs should offer i3-like performance, though this does come with a catch, with Intel’s new Pentium CPUs lacking support for the AVX2 instruction set, which is very handy for video editing and transcoding. While the lack of AVX2 instruction set should not affect gaming performance, it is certainly a disadvantage that is worth considering.

Below is a table detailing a lot of Intel’s current Kaby Lake Pentium lineup, which come at prices a low a $64.

Cores Threads Clock Speeds TDP Price
Pentium 4560 2 4 3.5GHz 51W $64
Pentium G4560T 2 4 2.9GHz 35W $64
Pentium G4600 2 4 3.6GHz 51W $75-82
Pentium G4600T 2 4 3.0GHz 35W $75
Pentium G4620 2 4 3.7GHz 51W $86-93

Hopefully, we will be able to get hold of a Kaby Lake Pentium CPU in the near future for review, as this CPU should certainly pack a decent level of performance for the price, making it very suitable for basic internet surfing or ultra-low budget gaming PCs.
