Biostar showcases seven AM4 motherboards

AMD’s Ryzen CPUs are coming and with them will come a whole new series of motherboards, AM4 motherboards, all of which will use the company’s 300-series chipsets.

Now Biostar has revealed seven new AM4 motherboards, four of which will use AMD’s high-end 370 chipsetsÂ and all of which support overclocking. Two of these motherboards will use ITX, confirming that AMD’s Ryzen CPUs will support smaller form factor platforms than the majority of Intel’s X99 series motherboards. Â Â Â

For the most part, with the exception of their ITX X370 board, Biostar’s X370 motherboards will support several PCIe 16x slots, though at this time it is unknown how many PCIe lanes that these motherboards will have at their disposal. All of these motherboards will also support M.2 storage and 7 phase power designs. Â Â Â Â

AMD’s AM4 motherboards will support dual-channel DDR4 memory, with higher end motherboards supporting up to 2933MHz DDR4 memory. At this time we do not know what speeds AMD’s AM4 CPUs can handle, though at least for now it looks like Ryzen should be able to handle some high-end DDR4 offerings, perhaps as high as 3200MHz without many issues. Right now it looks like AMD’s AM4 platform will offer similar features to Intel’s Z170/Z270 platforms, rather than X99, though AMD will offer support for additional PCIe 3.0 lanes using a PLX chip, which could make AMD’s top-tier offerings competitiveÂ with Intel’s X99 offerings (though at a higher cost).Â
