AMD’s Ryzen 5 series of CPUs will release on April 11th
Like all other AMD Ryzen CPUs, these new Ryzen 5 models will all be overclockable, allowing AMD users to get some extreme levels of value for money when compared to Intel’s i5 series of CPUs.
Intel’s main competitor in this price point is the i5 7600K, which is priced at around £230 at serval UK retailers, making Intel’s quad core a price competitor with AMD’s 6-core, 12-thread CPU models.
This gives AMD a huge opportunity to gain some market share from Intel, offering much higher core/thread counts than Intel’s price competitors, giving AMD a huge advantage in multi-threaded workloads.
| Processor Name | Cores | Threads | Base Clock Speeds | Boost Clock Speeds | TDP | Price US |
| Ryzen 7 1800X | 8 | 16 | 3.6GHz | 4.0GHz | 95W | $499 |
| Ryzen 7 1700X | 8 | 16 | 3.4GHz | 3.8GHz | 95W | $389 |
| Ryzen 7 1700 | 8 | 16 | 3.0GHz | 3.7GHz | 65W | $329 |
| Ryzen 5 1600X | 6 | 12 | 3.6GHz | 4.0GHz | – | $249 |
| Ryzen 5 1600 | 6 | 12 | 3.2GHz | 3.6GHz | – | $219 |
| Ryzen 5 1500X | 4 | 8 | 3.5GHz | 3.7GHz | – | $189 |
| Ryzen 5 1400 | 4 | 8 | 3.2GHz | 3.4GHz | – | $169 |
AMD’s Ryzen 5 1600, 1500X and 1400 will all come with AMD stock coolers, with the 1600 and 1500X coming with AMD’s Wraith Spire (non-RGB) cooler and the R5 1400 coming with AMD’s Wraith Stealth cooler.
The company has also noted that their R5 1500X will have a 200MHz XFR boost, giving it a maximum boost clock speed of 3.9GHz.
