Microsoft is reportedly bringing Halo Wars 2 to Steam

Jez Cordon, the Senior Editor of Window Central, has reported that Halo Wars 2 will be coming to Steam. Last month, Halo Wars: Definitive Edition released on Steam, bringing the game away from Xbox/Windows 10 Store exclusivity and allowing the game to be played by a larger gaming audience.

Halo Wars: Definitive Edition has been a huge success on Steam, selling around 50,000 copies on Valve’s gaming platform. This has prompted Microsoft to rethink their Windows 10 Store Exclusivity model, which forced games to be UWP apps and forces gamers to use the badly designed Windows 10 Storefront.

Early this morning, Jez Corden said the following on Twitter when discussing the success of Halo Wars on Steam. He also believes that Microsoft is working on a solution to allow Steam users to play with Windows 10 Store users, which was the reason behind the recent failure of Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare on the Windows 10 Store.

most def. That’s why HW2 is coming to Steam.

oh, nah, I’m confirming it, it IS coming to Steam, lol

I believe Microsoft is working on a solution for cross Steam/W10S connectivity too. So, they probably will.

Bringing Windows 10 Store exclusive titles to Steam would be a good move for Microsoft, delivering their games to a larger playerbase and offering satisfying those that choose to boycott the Windows 10 Store over its bad UI design, the forcing of UWP apps on users and pushing PC gamers into the Xbox Live ecosystem.
