Overclockers UK releases pre-binned, delidded X299 CPUs
Delidding tools for Intel’s latest X299 series CPUs are uncommon, making home CPU deliding a difficult task. Combine this with the fact that delidding is risky when attempted by novices and it is understandable why many opt to purchase pre-delidded CPUs to save them the hassle and worry of modifying a £300 CPU.
Some consumers also want to bypass the silicon lottery by purchasing a proven chip, one that overclocks highly to offer top tier performance levels, often paying well over a product’s MSRP to achieve a 1st class overclock.
Overclockers UK is now offering a selection of pre-binned and delidded X299 CPUs on their storefront, offering i7 7740X CPUs with clock speeds of up to 5.4GHz, i7 7800X processors with clock speeds of up to 4.9GHz and i9 7900X CPUs with clock speed of up to 4.9GHz.
These chips have been pretested by Overclockers UK and are proven to be able to run at these clock speeds on their own hardware, though bundles are also available for those who want all the motherboard overclock settings to come pre-configured.
At this time no specialised X299 delidding tools have been released onto the consumer market, giving end users very limited options when it comes to delidding their own CPUs. These tools will likely be released at a later date, leaving builders today in a tricky position.
