EA acquires Respawn Entertainment for over $400 million

EA has announced that they have acquired Respawn Entertainment in a deal that will likely be worth over $400 million, with EA paying $151 million in cash, $164 million in long-term equity over the next four years and an additional $140 million in cash is the studio meets certain performance milestones.

Respawn Entertainment has been associated with EA for quite some time now, creating Titanfall and Titanfall 2 with EA as their publisher and working on an upcoming Star Wars gaming title with the same publisher.

It has been confirmed that EA’s acquisition will not result in layoffs or any major organisational changes, with Vince Zampella continuing to act as the Respawn’s CEO, though he will also take a seat within EA’s studio leadership team.

Respawn thinks that EA is the right company to provide the company with the resources they require while allowing them to retain creative freedom over their future titles.
