Intel releases a major graphics driver upgrade for Windows 10’s April 2018 update
With the release of Intel’s new 100.6025 Graphics driver, we can see that the company has adopted a new driver naming scheme, replacing it with an easier to understand Baseline. Build number model. Now, if the numbers are higher, the driver is newer, making it a lot easier for users to know if they are using the company’s latest drivers.
Intel’s 100.6025 driver also adds support for Microsoft’s Windows 10 Redstone 4/April 2018 update. Alongside this Intel has also added “significant quality and power saving improvements while displaying Enhanced Dynamic Range (EDR) content” and “better brightness in High Dynamic Range (HDR) mode for 7th Generation (Kaby Lake) processors or higher”.
Official Vulkan 1.1 support has also arrived on Intel’s driver stack with this release, alongside DirectX 12 shader model 6.2 support, modernising Intel’s graphical feature set. Intel’s latest 100.6025 driver supports the following platforms.
– 6th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) processor family (Codename Skylake)
– 7th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) processor family (Codename Kaby Lake)
– 8th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) processor family (Codenames Kaby Lake R, Coffee Lake)
– Apollo Lake
– Gemini Lake
With this new driver release, Intel hopes to modernise their driver ecosystem, preparing the way for the eventual release of their upcoming graphics hardware. When the time comes for Intel to release dedicated graphics products, let’s hope that the company has the drivers to back it up.
