Samsung to release 8K panels to TV makers this year and Quantum Dot on Glass tech in 2019
According to a report from Display Daily, Samsung plans to offer TV makers 8K display panels before the end of 2018 in mass production quantities, potentially ushering in a new era of displays that can present images with a 4x resolution boost over 4K.
Alongside these staggeringly high-resolution displays, Samsung has also showcased their new Quantum Dot on Glass (QDoG) display technology, which can embed Quantum Dots onto glass materials to make Quantum Dot displays to be both thinner and more cost-effective than before. Today’s Quantum Dot displays use a Quantum Dot Enhanced Film (QDEF) technology, which is difficult to produce and require additional protective measures to prevent damage.
Most of Samsung’s modern high-end Tv lineup make use of Quantum Dot panels, offering support for a wider colour gamut while lacking the burn-in issues associated with OLED panels while also providing lower latency operation than typical OLED panels.
