Phoenix Point misses its day-1 release on Xbox Game Pass for PC, and it’s Microsoft’s fault

Phoenix Point, Snapshot Games’ XCOM-like Squad Turn-based Tactical game, has now been released on PC, releasing first on the Epic Games Store. Strangely, the game only released on Epic’s Storefront, despite the promise that the game would also release on Xbox Game Pass for PC and, by extension, the Microsoft Store.

Snapshot Games has confirmed on Twitter that Phoenix Point will not release on Xbox Game Pass for PC today, saying that they are “waiting on certification from Microsoft”. “It’s down to them now”, Snapshot Games said on their Phoenix Point Twitter account, suggesting that the game’s delay has nothing to do with them. When we reached out to Slingshot Games, they stated that they hope that the game will release on Xbox Game Pass for PC “within the next couple of days”.

Microsoft hasn’t commented on the matter at this time, instead focusing its social media resources on the release of Halo: Reach on PC and Xbox One, which released earlier today. At this time, there is no ETA for the release on Phoenix Point on Xbox Game Pass. Xbox Game Pass is, by far, the cheapest way to access Phoenix Point’s PC version.

Xbox Game Pass owners will be disappointed that Phoenix Point is unavailable on launch day, but at least these PC gamers can drown their sorrows with some 60FPS Halo Reach gameplay in the meantime. We will update this article if Microsoft or Slingshot Games updates us on this matter.
