Steam achieves record player counts amid COVID-19 Pandemic

This week, more and more people are working from home or isolating themselves because of the global COVID-19 Pandemic, which means that more gamers than ever are logged into Valve’s Steam gaming client.

Now, Valve has managed to achieve a concurrent user count of over 20 million, with over 6.2 million of those users actively playing games. This news comes one day after Counter-Strike: Global Offensive hit a concurrent player count of over 1 million, a new peak for the popular FPS. One can only dream of how high Fortnite’s concurrent player counts have gotten, especially now that schools have closed across many regions of the globe.

As COVID-19 starts to increase in severity across Europe and the US, Valve’s user numbers will likely continue to grow. The UK release of Disney Plus is also likely to prove incredibly popular during this time, as a lot of people will be avoiding outside activities by the time the service releases on March 24th.
