EA update’s Star Wars: Squadrons’ PC system requirements – Can you run it?

EA has released an updated set of PC system requirements for Star Wars: Squadrons, making heavy alterations to the game’s CPU and storage requirements.

THankfully, PC gamers with low-end systems will be glad to know that Squadrons’ minimum CPU requirements have been lowered from an i5-7600 to an i5-6600K, a processor which offers users a lower boost clock speed. Storage-wise, the game has now been listed with a 40GB storage requirements, a 10GB increase over what was previously listed.

Other alterations include a change from GPUs with DirectX 11 support to graphics cards with DirectX 11.1 support, as well as an upgraded set of recommended CPU requirements. Now EA recommends AMD’s Ryzen 7 2700X instead of AMD’s Ryzen 3 3200G. Otherwise, EA’s PC system requirements for Star Wars Squadrons remain unchanged.

PC gamers will be happy to know that this game features VR support, a feature which is exclusive to the platform. The PC version of the game will also feature flight stick/HOTAS support.

On Origin, this game has been given a £34.99 price tag, making this release much cheaper than most of EA’s AAA library. Given this fact, gamers shouldn’t expect this game to be as wide in scope as Star Wars: Battlefront II. Star Wars: Squadrons will release on October 2nd.

On PC, Star Wars: Squadrons will have separate minimum and recommended system requirements for VR and non-VR systems. VR users will need to have stronger PCs than non-VR players, which makes sense given the high framerate requirements of VR headsets.

For non-VR PCs, AMD’s RX 480 and Nvidia’s GTX 1060 graphics cards are recommended. These GPUs aren’t high-end by today’s standards, which means that most PC gamers will be able to enjoy this game with smooth framerates.
