Ubisoft has confirmed that their 2.40 update for Watch Dogs Legion has added official support for DXR ray tracing on AMD’s Radeon RX 6000 series of graphics cards. Previously, the option rendered incorrectly, delivering graphical artefacts and sub-par visuals.

With this update, Ubisoft has finally made ray tracing comparisons between AMD’s Radeon RX 6000 series and Nvidia’s RTX 30 series valid, with Ubisoft’s patch notes stating that they have “Enabled Ray Tracing for Ray Tracing capable AMD GPUs”. Ray tracing in Watch Dogs: Legion has now been optimised for Radeon products, something which wasn’t the case when the Radeon RX 6000 series of graphics cards launched.

Regardless, Watch Dog Legion’s ray tracing implementation was designed with Nvidia hardware in mind, coming through a partnership with Nvidia which also deliver DLSS 2.0 support within the title. While AMD’s graphics cards support now support DXR ray tracing within Watch Dogs Legion, only Nvidia can benefit from DLSS, an AI upsampling technology which delivers incredible performance boosts on Nvidia RTX GPUs.
