4A Games confirms that they have not evaluated AMD’s FidelityFX Super Resolution tech

In their Metro Exodus PC Enhanced Edition FAQ, A4 Games mentioned AMD’s FidelityFX Super Resolution feature, confirming that the studio had no plans to implement it into their game.

This tidbit of information was widely reported on, focusing on the developer’s lack of interest in AMD’s Super Resolution technology. Other articles also focused on the fact that 4A Games said that AMD’s technology was “not compatible” with their engine and that their own Temporal Reconstruction techniques offered “the same or better image quality benefits”.

4A Games didn’t actually evaluate AMD’s FidelityFX Super Resolution technology

Deep Silver and 4A Games have proactively released statements to various press outlets, confirming that they have now updated Metro Exodus’ PC Enhanced Edition FAQ and that 4A Games has not evaluated AMD’s FidelityFX Super Resolution technology. 4A Games’ full statement can be read below.

4A Games has not evaluated the AMD FidelityFX Super Resolution feature for Metro Exodus at this time. In our FAQ, we were referring to the AMD FidelityFX open source image quality toolkit which targets traditional rendering techniques that our new RT only render does not use, and noting that we have our own Temporal Reconstruction tech implemented natively which provides great quality benefits for all hardware, so do not currently plan to utilize any other toolkits.

4A Games is always motivated to innovate, evaluate, and use the newest technologies that will benefit our fans across all platforms and hardware.

4A Games has now claimed that they were referring to AMD’s “FidelityFX open-source image quality toolkit” and not AMD’s FidelityFX Super Resolution technology, backtracking from their prior FAQ statement by removing it from their FAQ in its entirety.

In their new statement, they have highlighted their native Temporal Reconstruction technique and highlighted its image quality benefits, further adding that they will “use the newest technologies that will benefit our fans across all platforms and hardware.”
