Nvidia RTX 3060 Ti Founders Edition Review

Nvidia RTX 3060 Ti Founders Edition Review

Introduction

One would imagine that now Nvidia have brought out a series of graphics cards that blow their Turing ones away, and AMD have revitalised the Radeon range, that picking a graphics card would be simpler than ever. After all, we all want great gaming performance and yet it seems to can buy any of the cards that have been launched since the world went into lockdown and be satisfied.

However, if you’ve just set your sights on the RTX 3070 and been patiently waiting for some stock to appear then hold onto your money for a moment as there is a new kid on the block in the form of the RTX 3060 Ti. Straight away we’re a little bit confused because usually the Ti versions of Nvidia cards are the ones that appear when they refresh the design and bring even more performance from a particular GPU, but here it’s out of the box with the Ti model.

Lots of rumours were swirling about the latest addition to the Ampere range, and we can’t remember another card that had quite so many performance leaks. Anyone would think that the RX 6800 launch rattled a certain company enough to leak like a government department, but we couldn’t possibly comment. However, what we’ve gleaned from the various leaks is that this card could bring RTX 2080 Super levels of performance, which is probably more astonishing than the RTX 3070 matching the RTX 2080 Ti. There is, as ever, only one way to find out. We’ve got two reviews for you today, the Founders Edition itself, and then another that covers the partner cards – ASUS, MSI, Gigabyte – that we have in the office. Suffice to say that we’ve seen Time Spy running so often this month that we’re seeing it in our sleep.

Technical Specifications

Nvidia are happy to compare the RTX 3060 Ti with their previous generation RTX 2060 Super. Numerically it makes a lot of sense, but as we’ll soon see the real challenger in performance terms for the RTX 3060 Ti is the RTX 2080 Super, and given the price that launched at it’s clear there is only going to be one winner.
